PMAN MEDIA DISTRIBUTION NETWORK (MDN).
PMAN,s latest anti-piracy agenda will be operated as Media Distribution Network (MDN). It has the following features:
· Definition and maintenance of systematic nation-wide product distribution route for accountability.
· Standardization of product packaging in terms of size and of material.
· Compulsory bar-coding of products -CDs, DVDs, etc- for tracking purposes.
· National and international distribution-control.
MDN is a special distribution system that will operate a dedicated offline (i.e. physical) distribution system and a world-class internet platform that will run with the same operational template being used in Japan, United States & Europe. Registration with MDN will automatically hook you up with GS1 (Global System One), its globally renowned online anti-piracy security partners. GS1 will be responsible for providing barcode security for your works. GS1 barcodes will give you online access to 15 million download companies and websites across the globe. GS1 barcodes will make all internet downloads of your works traceable, track-able and accountable.
In addition, GS1 will give you numeric details(figures) of internet downloads of your works worldwide on request and will liaise with MDN to make hassle-free payment possible.
Understanding MDN’s Physical Distribution Structure
The essence of MDN platform is to capture and monitor the route of music products from replicating factories to warehouses on to distributors and ultimately to retailers. There are about twelve Nigeria Copyright Commission NCC-licenced replicating plants and three mastering establishments operating in Nigeria. They have an estimated combined output of 1.5 trillion CDs/DVDs annually! MDN will track and monitor the movements of all CDs and DVDs through this network. It's physical distribution system is therefore driven by:
1) Register with the biometric card project and qualify to get your works barcoded by GS1.
2) Bring the mastered copy of your work to PMAN.
3) PMAN takes your master to CD replicating plants on its data-base.
4) CD replicating plants connects with MDN to get your work barcoded by GS1.
5) Replicating plants encode your work (with barcode).
6) CD replicating plants will request release-date from artiste.
7) Based on release-date, CD replicating plant will ship the encoded CDs to NIPOST.
8) NIPOST will distribute the CDs to all branches nationwide.
9) Dealers will approach NIPOST to book for specific CD consignments.
10) After bookings are made, payment for requested consignment will be made to NIPOST, after which dealers will be free to mark-up prices of their consignment for profit.
Artistes’ royalty will be included in cost at which dealers will buy from NIPOST.
This arrangement secures artistes’ income before dealers hit the market!
PMAN partners in this fresh anti-piracy initiative are: Nigeria Film & Video Censors Board (NFVCB); Nigerian Copy-Right Commission (NCC); GSI Nigeria; Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) among others.
